The theme for this year's CSR activity is called “FETP shares”, and the CSR-EEC (Corporate Social Responsibility-Employee Events Committee) has selected Tahanan ng Pagmamahal Children's Home Inc. (from here on shall be referred to as “Tahanan”) to be its Corporate Social Responsibility beneficiary. Tahanan is a non-government organization working for abandoned and neglected children. The organization was founded by Mr. Reylindo and Mrs. Myrna Ortega in December 2006. They were moved by the depressing situation of the children who were not taken care of and were surrendered by their parents. They started by just feeding the children in a rented apartment to house the children. Tahanan is now permanently located at 45 Dr. Pilapil Street, Brgy. Sagad, Pasig City, Metro Manila.
Since 2015, Tahanan has worked closely with the Department of Social Welfare and Development with regard to the childrens’ adoption. However, it has been difficult recently due to the pandemic. Currently, there are 38 children which include babies, toddlers, and older children that are taken care of by the staff of Tahanan.
The FETP CSR activity for the orphanage has been aligned with 2 of the 6 Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) identified by the Fujitsu group, namely Zero Hunger, and Good Health and Well-being.
The COVID-19 pandemic has restricted all means of face-to-face meetups and thus CSR-EEC could not physically go to the orphanage to hand over the check donation. The committee decided to just deposit the CSR fund worth Php 25,000.00 directly to Tahanan’s bank account. FATD deposited the said amount directly to Tahanan’s account. The CSR-EEC then thought of a way to somehow celebrate this activity and early gift giving event.
Aside from the virtual hand-over ceremony, CSR-EEC also opened the door for voluntary donations from the employees. The donation drive was entitled “Be a Blessing by Donating”. The “FETP CSR Virtual Handover of Donations” was held last November 19, 2021, at 5:30PM PHT (6:30PM JST) via Google Meet.
The program was facilitated by the CSR-EEC members and was hosted by its chairperson. Representatives from Tahanan were invited and available FETP employees from the Philippines and Japan were also able to join the activity.
Since November is also the celebration of the National Children’s Month in the Philippines, the CSR-EEC adviser had sponsored dinner for the children of Tahanan and their staff to complete the celebration. Food was delivered to Tahanan at 4PM. Before the program started, Tahanan allowed FETP employees to meet the children. FETP employees got to greet them, and the representatives and children from Tahanan were able to personally give their heart-warming gratitude to FETP for the donations received especially for the dinner provided to them.
The program began with a brief introduction of FETP and the nature of its work. Guests from Tahanan were invited to visit its website to know more about the company.
The opening remark was conducted by FETP HRGA Manager. She gave her sincerest appreciation to all who have contributed to the success of the CSR activity. She warmly welcomed the representatives from Tahanan, acknowledged the presence of all FETP employees who were present and thanked the CSR-EEC members who have facilitated the CSR activity and afternoon program. She emphasized the resiliency of the children as an inspiration during these tough times as well for the dedication of Tahanan in their continuous giving of love and support for the children under their care.
After the opening remarks, Tahanan’s VP of External Affairs, gave her introductory speech on behalf of Tahanan. She shared a glimpse of the humble beginnings of Tahanan on how it started from a small dream into becoming a sanctuary of miracles for fostering children who have been abandoned and neglected. She focused on how Tahanan has stood up as being a “Home of Love” which is the English translation for “Tahanan ng Pagmamahal”. Tahanan still strives to keep its vision for the children. She expressed her heart-felt gratitude for the partnership of FETP in giving generously to Tahanan.
In line with the Christmas season, the children from Tahanan gave their early Christmas carol to FETP through their video presentation. The spirit and love of Christmas was expressed in their presentation.
After the children’s video presentation, the virtual handover of donations to Tahanan was conducted. The famous quote by Winston Churchill was also shared to everyone - “We make a living by what we get, we make life by what we give”.
Additionally, the collected voluntary donations from employees were gladly presented to Tahanan. Tahanan was also surprised at the voluntary donations given to them as it was not expected. Both donations were presented in the form of a virtual check. All the donations were already deposited to their account ahead of the program. The total amount of the voluntary donations was Php 44,300.00.
On behalf of Tahanan, its executive director gave her speech of appreciation for FETP. The certificate of appreciation for FETP was also presented during the program. She expressed her gratitude to FETP by saying “Arigatou Gozaimasu!”. She emphasized that the donations received will be able to support more children in Tahanan.
Another video presentation from the children was played as a special thanks to FETP. The title of the song is “Gratitude”, which was a song taught to them by Nuns who visited Tahanan to teach the children.
After the final presentation, the FETP president gave the closing remarks for the program. He thanked everyone who has participated in the CSR activity. He expressed his great respect for the “Bayanihan Spirit” of the Filipinos in helping the less fortunate and to make things better. He thanked everyone who has given generously to support the children in Tahanan. He also emphasized that the children are the next generation so they should be supported and nurtured. He then gave encouragement for all to endure during the pandemic, comparing it with a Lunar eclipse and that it too shall come to pass.
To formally close the program, the CSR-EEC chairperson gave his deepest appreciation to all who have attended the program and contributed to the donations, especially to the FETP president for providing the funded donations for Tahanan.
Before leaving the online program, everyone was encouraged to stay for a while for the online photo op. It was great to capture the bright and warm smiles of all the attendees.
Lastly, the CSR-EEC is thankful to everyone who participated in the success of FETP’s CSR activity and to those who have generously given their voluntary donations for Tahanan ng Pagmamahal Children’s Home, Inc. The activity was a blessing not only for Tahanan but also for FETP.
Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to all!
